Erina is back this week as the guest! Kanon suggests that since there hasn’t been time yet on the show, they should discuss how their GRADATION Budokan performance went. The two share that they were both a little envious of Riho and Sakura receiving so many of Sayumi’s previous lines, but were happy to receive a few of their own. Erina’s favorite line she received is in “I’m Lucky Girl”, which was sung as a 5 person song with Mizuki, Erina, Haruna, Haruka, and Kanon. The line “kono mama kaze ni notte” is in the chorus, which made Erina especially happy, since it was nearly the first time she sang in a chorus at Budokan. Kanon shares the feeling, finally getting to sing on her own, in particular, her solo part in “Shouganai Yumeoibito”. To them, who have rarely gotten solo lines in the past, can really feel “god looking down on them” when they do receive the parts. With that, they feel that they absolutely must perform their parts as well they can, and, beyond that, they think they were more nervous than other members who regularly receive solo lines because the pressure of judgement is certainly greater. Erina explains that she attempted to emulate how her seniors performed the lines; thinking it to be considerably difficult at first. The two are happy with how far they were able to grow during the GRADATION Concert season and look forward to doing their best during the Summer Hello! Concert, as well.

Our MC for today’s inaugural episode is Morning Musume。´15 leader Fukumura Mizuki, who gives us a quick introduction to the show. Also appearing together with her are ℃-ute and H!P leader Yajima Maimi and Country Girls’ Playing Manager Tsugunaga Momoko.

With Mizuki as the MC, Momoko hopes to get something yummy to work with. Mizuki was actually really nervous to be in the MC position – so nervous that she couldn’t sleep the night before.

This first broadcast is a meeting of leaders, so the girls will be talking about the charms of Hello! Project from a leader’s point of view. Momoko is grateful to be invited for this, since she’s technically not a leader – she’s usually only called when the circumstances are convenient. As she always gets left out despite wanting to join, she’s really happy for the opportunity to participate in the discussions this time around.

Momoko: For still being so cute today… ‘Gomennasai ne~’
Mizuki: Eh, Tsugunaga-san, have you quit with your ‘Yurushite-nyan’?
Momoko: Nope, I haven’t.

Momoko was just promoting Country Girls’ newly released song, Itooshikutte Gomen ne. Anyway, they start with a very brief outline of the history of Hello! Project: H!P started in 1998 with the debut of Heike Michiyo and Morning Musume。, and after 17 years, Hello! Project is now a bastion of various groups. Continue reading

Today, Kanon has a guest on the show: Ikuta Erina! Kanon initially comments that she is of the opinion that most members stopped thinking about this show once Sayumi’s ended. Erina half heartedly replies that she had thought about the show, but that was the extent of her efforts. In her defense, the recording studio is ‘all the way out in Nagoya’, so it’s more of a out of sight, out of mind thing. She made it her all by herself today solely using her phones GPS though. This is Erina’s second time coming to the studio, as she ended up joining Mizuki when she went on as a guest on Sayumi’s show. When Sayumi announced her graduation, Erina asked who would be taking over the show, however Sayumi never gave her a straight answer. After thinking about it for a small bit, Erina concluded that it would probably be Kanon since the studio was in Aichi after all. Kanon mentions Maria is also from Aichi, and Erina says “Yeah I thought maybe it would her as well” since she had the new member appeal at the time. Tieing it together, Kanon states that she’s happy to have this show since it’s in her home prefecture.

Song: Otome no Timing – Morning Musume

img20140208144743829Your hosts today

Normally, this would be the part where Kanon reads letters, however, they’ll be doing something a little different: a tongue twister showdown! The two cheer; Kanon begins asking Erina if she thinks she can perform tongue twisters to which she professes mid sentence that she think she can do it. On this radio show she has been able to do them before successfully, so while Kanon generally thinks shes bad at them, she thinks she’ll be alright today. Finding it hard to believe, Erina asks if she practices before the radio recording; this happens to be the truth, leading Erina to be suspicious of her real ability. The rules are simple, do the most tongue twisters without making a mistake and you don’t have to give a super-cutesy self appeal. The two rock-paper-scissors to decide who gets to goes first, Kanon wins. As a result, she lets Erina go first.

♫ ℃-ute – Arigatou Mugen no Yell ♫

September’s theme is ‘I started doing this countless years ago‘. We start with radio name 24-san, who’s been doing samba for 18 years. Back then, 24-san was a student, and they started trying it out in a casual, non-committal way because it looked like fun. Now, it’s become an indispensable part of 24-san’s life. 24-san even came 3rd in the Asakusa samba carnival held once a year at the end of August – though they were just happy enough to finish without a single slip-up.

When they come back to think about it, 24-san wonders why they’ve been continuing on with samba – While samba uses Brazilian music, 24-san isn’t Brazilian, and hasn’t even been to Brazil. Even if you were to ask 24-san what samba’s really about, they don’t think they’d be able to give an answer. But 24-san isn’t going to quit, because there’s this passionate feeling that 24-san can’t experience with other music, only through samba. One of the items on 24-san’s bucket list is to put that indescribable feeling into words.

While 24-san can’t properly explain samba well, they would like to ask Maimi if she can explain what an idol is. To Maimi-chan, what is the definition of an idol?

Maimi thanks 24-san, who she remembers having sent in a letter about samba before. She herself isn’t really familiar with samba, and hasn’t really had opportunities to dance it, although she has watched it before. That said, live performances of ‘That’s the Power’ incorporate samba-ish dance moves, and there was a time when they wore flashy clothes and tried out a bit of samba dancing, but they’ve never done full-blown samba dancing before. Samba is something she can’t really explain well either, but in her mind, it’s something that’s amazing and colourful.

Coming back to 24-san’s question, Maimi thinks for a bit and comes out with the following: For her, idols are people who deliver smiles. When she was small, she remembers watching Morning Musume。 and thinking that they were truly dazzling. She thinks that the work of an idol is to truly shine, lifting the spirits of those watching them, giving them courage. What a wonderful line of work!

She’s recently been trying out the path of Japanese traditions at events, challenging herself to rakugo, recitation, iaido – and it’s thanks to her job as an idol that she receives these sorts of opportunities. She finds it amazing and enjoyable that she’s able to attempt all sorts of things as an idol. Experiencing differing things that excite her is something she enjoys. Being an idol is a fine job, one she doesn’t want to quit.

Maimi thanks 24-san for their letter, and hopes that someday, they’d be able to see 24-san samba performances.

FIVE STARS Niigaki Risa & Kamei Eri #49 (2010.03.08)

Kame kicks off the show by introducing a quick message from a listener, who wishes simply to inform them that Gaki-san’s “here we go~” she does at the beginning of corners on the show is “really cute.” Kame asks what her co-host thinks of this sudden confession of love. Gaki-san is glad to receive these words of praise, but explains that the only reason she actually says that is because otherwise Kame wouldn’t understand that it’s time to move the show along. It’s more of a “Kame, come on, here we go! We’re reading some fan mail next!” type of thing more than anything else. Kame thinks Gaki-san is pretty smart for coming up with this method all by herself.

Song: Morning Musume – Namidacchi

Gaki-san: Here we go~!
Kame: Okay!
GakiKame: Let’s read some messages!
Kame: To your battle stations!
Gaki-san: … You’re listening to interFM Monday regulars, Morning Musume Niigaki Risa and…
Kame: Kamei Eri. (giggles)
Gaki-san: What the heck was that?! Going all “to your battle stations” or something… (laughs)
Kame: (laughs) I was just responding to your “here we go~!

FIVE STARS Niigaki Risa & Kamei Eri #48 (2010.03.01)

Kame: Gaki-san~!
Gaki-san: Yes?
Kame: It’s already March!
Gaki-san: Yes it is.
Kame: So let’s do our customary fashion check!
Gaki-san: … Customary? We’ve never done anything like that on the show.
Kame: Huh? Weren’t we always the two fashion leaders?

Fashion leaders or not, Kame begins by introducing Gaki-san’s fashion of the day. She says the theme of Gaki-san’s outfit is “flying squirrels and the letter A.” Whatever it is that she’s wearing, Kame thinks it looks warm. Gaki-san thinks Kame’s fashion looks quite grown-up today, with a knitted sweater and a glittery skirt. Kame reveals that she’s wearing HEATTECH below — if you look closely enough, you can even see it.

GakiKame: five-nk@interfm.jp
Kame: Hyyyyphen.
Gaki-san: five
GakiKame: -nk@
Gaki-san: Dot… Argh, I lost track! five-nk
Kame: (Risa…! Risa…!)
Gaki-san: @interfm.jp. It’s your fault for throwing in random hyphens!
Kame: Sorry. (laughs)

Maimi’s photo book ‘Pure Eyes’ had just come out the day before the broadcast. She was still 21 when the shooting was done in Hawaii, yet she still enjoyed herself innocently despite being a grown-up.

℃-ute – Love Take it All ♫

This is the first time Deru-san’s sending a message to the show. Deru-san came to like ℃-ute through Maimi. Also by association, they came to like Maimi’s good friend, Tokunaga Chinami of Berryz Kobo. Their question: what led to Maimi-chan becoming really good friends with Chinami?

Maimi explains that she’s been friends with Chinami from the very start, from the day of the live broadcast when they would announce the results of the H!P Kids audition. There, shy little Maimi was quietly sitting on a chair, having no one to talk with. Right after her in line was Chinami, who went ‘This is nerve-wracking, isn’t it~?‘. They struck up a conversation and immediately became fast friends. Maimi was uneasy and looking for reassurance at the time, so finding out that she could get on well with Chinami untangled her nerves.

The first job they had was the movie ‘Koinu Dan no Monogatari’. The shooting took place at a distant location, so they spent a long time travelling on buses. Chinami, who was seated next to Maimi throughout the journey, offered Maimi crispy plums, and they chatted about all sorts of things while munching on them.

Then they were split into Berryz Kobo and ℃-ute, so they couldn’t always be together like before. Yet whenever they would meet, they’d always be together. The two of them had even gone for a meal recently, after they had wrapped up some work they had together. They had initially intended to go back home, but got to talking on the way back, and ended up going for a meal.

Chii really understands Maimi’s personality. Maimi’s bad with crowds, and they had gone to eat at Shibuya. For those unfamiliar with Shibuya station, it’s a labyrinth that’s packed with people, but Chinami helped guide Maimi – which platform to go to, which train line to get on. Maimi feels that Chii’s like her guardian.

Maimi enjoys her time with Chii, and finds Chii to be a really delightful girl.

Its already June 9th, Kanon realizes. She wonders what people’s impressions were from  the recent Morning Musume Budoukan performance. Regarding this tour, the MC corner would have a rotating two people and they would talk about a given subject. This is the first tour since Kanon started her radio show, so she felt that she was better at speaking this time around. Before, when there was something she wanted to talk about during an MC her heart would race as she spoke, worried she wouldn’t say the right things during the discussion. However, because she is able to talk every week about what’s on her mind, she can separate what she should say as to what’s trivial during the discussion. So for this tour, she was able to properly plan what to say in advance. For example, on the radio show, she has been collecting postcards from Gifu prefecture and Morning Musume toured in Gifu for the first time in a long time. Because of the radio show, she knew what to talk about regarding the prefecture.

Song: Morning Musume – Roman ~MY DEAR BOY~

I, Suzuki Kanon Will Open Up To My True Feelings Message Corner!

Message 1: This writer asks if Kanon has any food and drink she likes to pair up. They like to pair taiyaki with roasted green tea.

She doesn’t really have any, actually. Thinking for a moment, Kanon comes up with something. Although she can’t eat it right now, she really enjoys butterscotch flavored bread and will drink it with yogurt drinks. Kanon really likes sweet bread, the big and round kind that can be found at convenience stores. Erina likes it too, Kanon says. The staff asks for her to go into more detail on what type of bread it is. Struggling, she explains its like a brown, circular bread with a sweet coating on it. Essentially, when Kanon buys that sort of bread she’ll buy drinks like milk and yogurt, heavier things, and eat it with sweet bread.
