Deli-kun: Riho-chan, can I ask you something?
Sayashi: What is it, Deli-kun?
Deli-kun: Starting this year, “’14” was added to Morning Musume’s name, right?
Sayashi: That’s right. Starting this year, I’m Morning Musume ’14’s Sayashi RiFOUR. Please treat me well.
Deli-kun: Hold on! You’re Sayashi RiHO, right? You said “RiFOUR” just now. You’re attaching “’14” even to your own name?
Sayashi: I did no such thing.
Deli-kun: No, you did say it. Say it one more time.
Sayashi: Sure. I’m Morning Musume ’14’s Sayashi RiFOUR!
Deli-kun: You totally said it just now.
Sayashi: Please stop fooling around. I did not say it.
Deli-kun: Am I the one who’s wrong…?
Sayashi: Every Sunday at 4:30 p.m. RIHO-DELI will be brought to you by Morning Musume ’14’s Sayashi RiFOUR! Be sure to listen, ok?!
Deli-kun:*mutters*…She’s definitely saying it…

Song: Morning Musume ’14 – “Password is 0”

Sayashi: Hello, I’m Morning Musume ’14’s Sayashi Riho!
Deli-kun: So envious…I’m so envious…so envious…
Sayashi: Hey, please greet everyone~
Deli-kun: Do I have to?
Sayashi: Of course.
Deli-kun: Listeners probably don’t know why I’m envious…You just came back from your Hawaii trip, right?
Sayashi: I did!
Deli-kun: I’m so enviooouuusss!
Sayashi: Hyahhooi! Hyahhooi!
Deli-kun: Don’t give me that “Hyahhooi!”
Sayashi: Today I would like to brag about it to Deli-kun. ^_^
Deli-kun: All I can say is that I’m envious! …Alright, fine. Please tell us about it.

Sayashi says they did a lot of photoshoots and filming, so it was a pretty long stay. Of course, one of the main things was the fan club tour. Sayashi finds it a little strange to be able to meet the fans in Hawaii. She thinks it’s great that they get to enjoy a fan club event with a different atmosphere. This time was Michishige-san’s last one, so the members and fans prepared a surprise for her. There were also the usual solo corners for each member as well as the optional tours, so it felt really fulfilling. Being with the fans in a different atmosphere and doing things like dancing with them allowed her to see another side of the fans. She feels like the distance between the members and the fans got a bit shorter.

When it comes to Hawaii, Sayashi thinks the food is great. They got to go to a lot of restaurants and she ate a lot. Sayashi goes on about how good and thick and juicy the steak was at Wolfgang’s Steakhouse. Deli-kun knows the restaurant and says he’s never eaten there himself and has only seen pictures. He sounds very envious, so naturally Sayashi tortures him with more descriptions of the oh-so-delicious food until he begs her to stop.

“It’s the last day of August!” Sayashi thinks there are probably a lot of students out there who are rushing to get their summer homework done at the last minute. She can totally relate, and she hopes that RIHO-DELI can help them keep their energy up.

Song: Morning Musume ’14 – “Password is 0”

During the summer vacation, Sayashi says she had a lot of photoshoots. One of them was with Juice=Juice’s Miyamoto Karin. Up to now, they’ve never done anything with just the two of them. Sayashi says she was very nervous, especially because Karin is the same age as she is and is also very conscious about being an idol. Sayashi heard that Karin wakes up every morning at 6 to get ready. Then there’s also the image of her being perfect: not only does she have fair skin and a cute and pretty appearance, she’s also good at singing and dancing.

Sayashi: Ever since the photoshoot was decided, I’d been nervous. I thought, “I gotta get myself up to Karin-chan’s specs!”

When the day of the photoshoot finally came, both of them were really awkward with each other. Sayashi says that normally, they don’t really talk to each other much. Plus, they’re both the kind of people who prefer to be alone even within their own groups and they don’t really go out of their way to socialize with members of the other groups. As a result, the photoshoot was really awkward. The staff told them, “The atmosphere’s interesting today. It’s a new feeling!” and tried to make it sound like a good thing, but Sayashi thinks they were just being considerate and were actually thinking how awkward and unpleasant it was.

Deli-kun: But it’s not like you were glaring at each other or something, right?
Sayashi: No, it wasn’t like that.

Miyamoto Karin and Sayashi Riho

Sayashi being “awkward” with Karin-chan-san.

Sayashi says they were both just being very polite with each other. Because Karin-chan was in Hello Pro Kenshuusei before she herself joined Morning Musume, even now, she’s not entirely sure which one of them should be considered the senior. Sayashi recalls how they appeared together in a stage play when she had just joined Morning Musume and Karin-chan was still a Kenshuusei. At the time, Sayashi didn’t know what to call her, so she ended up calling her “Karin-chan-san.” After that, calling her “Chan-san” became a habit among the fans and it soon became Karin-chan’s nickname. All of these things have contributed to their complicated relationship, and now when they talk to each other, they use a mix of honorific speech and casual language. Sayashi says things like this make her envy members who are more assertive. This made her realize that even though she enjoys being by herself, when she’s working, she should try harder to expand her personal connections.

“September is heeeere!!!” and this means summer vacation is over and it’s a new school term for all the students. Sayashi wonders if they’ve gotten used to it yet.

Song: Morning Musume – Aki Urara

Sayashi says that she recently tried to get her body into shape [1]. She tried various things, such as exercising. The one thing that she was always careful about was eating three proper meals a day. There are people who go on a diet and skip some meals, but Sayashi didn’t do that. One day, however, she thought she would try doing that. She felt like she could pull it off that day and it was just before Morning Musume went to Hawaii, so she felt even more compelled to get into shape.

So she skipped lunch. And promptly ran out of energy. When all the members and staff around her were running, she tried to catch up and couldn’t. She couldn’t run and couldn’t even tell whether she was sleepy or just hungry. She felt like her brain wasn’t working. Deli-kun is surprised that skipping just one meal made such a huge difference for her. Sayashi says that skipping lunch combined with the summer heat and being outside for most of the day drained her energy and made her dizzy.

Sayashi adds that she loves to eat and that she usually eats a lot more than others. For her, this incident really drove home the point that she has to eat properly. She knows that others may be different, but it was tough for her. She stresses the importance of not skipping meals and of finding a balance between eating and staying in shape. From now on, she’s gonna try not to stuff herself and also try to avoid cakes and other sweets.

Sayashi eating

Sayashi will try to avoid stuffing her face.

Deli-kun asks what happened to her plan to get into shape. She says she did get into shape and that the fall tour costumes will probably leave her abs exposed. Under certain lighting, she says you can see that her abs are defined.

Sayashi: I have a ripped sixpack!!!
Deli-kun: Ripped?!
Sayashi: Ripped!
Deli-kun: Everyone, go to the concerts and verify this!

“It’s the second half of summer!” Sayashi encourages everyone to enjoy summer fully until the very end.

Song: Juice=Juice – Kaze ni Fukarete

Sayashi talks about going back to Hiroshima the week before. On the flight back, coffee was being served. Normally, Sayashi doesn’t drink coffee, and even when she goes to a coffee shop, she usually orders a sweet drink. But Sayashi is 16 years old now, so she thought she’d try it. And when she did, she thought it tasted really good. She felt like she had turned into an adult. She’s had coffee with milk and sugar before, but this time, she drank it black.

She was so happy about being able to drink coffee that she ordered a second cup and somehow started to really enjoy herself. At first, she was tired and sleepy from playing around in Hiroshima, but after drinking coffee, she couldn’t go to sleep anymore. She felt like only her eyes were awake and the rest of her body was still sleepy. The flight was an hour and a half, so she wanted to sleep happily like always, but she just couldn’t. It was only afterwards that she remembered that coffee contains caffeine and that she probably shouldn’t drink it before going to bed. It was delicious, but she regretted drinking it.

Sayashi says that when she got home, she thought she’d write a blog entry, but her hand was shaking so much that she couldn’t even hold her phone. She thinks that maybe because she hadn’t been drinking coffee before, when she suddenly drank a lot in one go, her body was shocked. Deli-kun thinks she got a bit carried away. Sayashi agrees. She realized that even though she may think, “I’ve become an adult!” as she grows older, she should climb up the stairs to adulthood at a steady and orderly pace. Deli-kun agrees that she shouldn’t try to go up 2 or 3 steps at a time.

Song: Morning Musume – Morning Coffee

Shuwa Shuwa Mail Corner ’14

Sayashi: Ok, let’s move on to this corner!
Deli-kun: Hold on a minute!
Sayashi: What is it?!
Deli-kun: You were about to shout it out, right?
Sayashi: Yeah, totally.
Deli-kun: I’d like to read a letter now.
Sayashi: Right now? I haven’t even done the title call.

With everyone’s summer vacations ending and autumn quickly approaching, Sayashi asks Fuku-chan and Maa-chan about their memories of the past summer.

Fuku-chan mentions having gone to a summer festival with Oda and Eripon and enjoying some delicious peach flavored shaved ice. She asks Maa-chan how her summer was.

Maa-chan: This summer was really, really fun!
Fuku-chan: Yeah?
Maa-chan: No! Wait! I have so many regrets about it!
Fuku-chan: Oh.

Maa-chan explains she meant this in regards to having missed out on a couple of Hello!Con performances earlier in August due to her ill health, but says she’s 100% fine now. But on the plus side, she says, she got to go back to Hokkaido which probably helped her get the rest she needed and get better. Fuku-chan, too, has noticed Maa-chan looking a lot better since coming back from Hokkaido. (Unfortunately, Maa-chan was again absent due to ill health on September 10 when Morning Musume appeared as guests at °C-ute’s Budokan concert).

Sayashi regrets not having been able to go to any summer festivals, but on the other hand, she enjoyed her work as well their trip to Hawaii. She says she had a fun summer.

Opening Question
“What’s the song you would most like to sing solo?”

Fuku-chan’s choice is °C-ute’s “Wasuretakunai Natsu.” She says she loves it and listens to it a lot, and that she actually wanted to sing it at their event in Hawaii but couldn’t: the way it works is that the members all have to send in several choices of songs they’d like to sing over to their manager, and this song unfortunately didn’t get picked. She hopes to get to sing it at a future summer event.

Fuku-chan & Sayashi & Maa-chan: Aloha~!

Fuku-chan explains their opening greeting by saying that the three will be in Hawaii on the day this episode is broadcast. At this point they’re still in Tokyo recording the show though, and Fuku-chan asks the two how they’re doing with their preparations for Hawaii. Sayashi says she hasn’t done a single thing yet — she only just found a carry case at home today. Maa-chan immediately asks Sayashi what color her carry case is, and Sayashi says it’s somewhere between orange and pink. Maa-chan says she hasn’t done anything yet either, and Fuku-chan admits that neither has she. Fuku-chan wonders how many changes of clothes she should bring with her. Sayashi says they’ll probably be mostly wearing outfits provided by the office, so just bringing T-shirts and Relaco should be enough.

Fuku-chan mentions that August 23 is Ukulele Day in Hawaii. She has a DVD where the members of Berryz practice playing “Happy Birthday” for Risako on the ukulele, so when she got the opportunity to play one herself, she remembered that scene on the DVD and tried to see if she could play it, and to her surprise she found that she actually could. Sayashi is surprised to hear this and they hope they get a chance to play some on this trip to Hawaii as well.

Opening Question

The three take turns in answering a question about what they’re generally doing before concerts. Fuku-chan says she applies lip balm given to her by Kenshuusei Yamagishi Riko, Sayashi says she drinks black tea, and Maa-chan says she fixes her hair.

Fuku-chan says this is the first time she’s heard about Sayashi’s tea thing. Sayashi explains that it’s not like she has to drink it every concert, but since hearing other artists saying they drink sweet teas such as herb tea, she’s gotten into the habit of doing so to help herself keep her throat in good condition throughout the concert.

Fuku-chan: As for Maa-chan, you fix your hair, huh?
Maa-chan: No. I double-check the lyrics.
Fuku-chan: …Oh. So you changed your answer.

Fuku-chan mentions how the other day she had her hair done curly for Hello!Con, but the curls got undone and she was talking to her manager about what she should do. Maa-chan suddenly offered to fix Fuku-chan’s hair for her, and she first weaved it and then braided it for her. Even though there was hardly any time to spare, Maa-chan pulled it off in no time and Sayashi says it really suited Fuku-chan. Maa-chan says she wants to change back to her original answer after all.

“It’s hot!” Sayashi reminds everyone to take care of themselves in this heat.

Song: °C-ute “Kanashiki Heaven” (Single Version)

Continuing her talk about Michishige-san last week, Sayashi says that she gets nervous when talking to her. She says the other members get nervous as well. On the other hand, there’s Katsuta Rina, aka Rinapu, who gets along really well with Michishige-san. Sayashi thinks that Rinapu is the kind of person who can get along well with anyone. Sayashi herself doesn’t often initiate conversations with members of the other HP groups, but Rinapu comes and talks to her. She says they’re close and that they often talk to each other.

What amazes Sayashi is that Rinapu is able to interact with Michishige-san in the same way that she does with Sayashi and the other juniors. What’s more, at a recent HP concert, when Morning Musume ’14 and Smileage were in the same dressing room, Rinapu came up behind Michishige-san, who was doing her makeup at the time, covered her eyes, and said, “Guess who~!” Sayashi couldn’t believe what she had just seen. To Sayashi, that is something that she could never ever do in her life. And yet Rinapu just went and did it. Sayashi says she was both surprised and very envious that Rinapu can act so casually with Michishige-san despite not being in the same group.

Deli-kun: How did Michishige-san react?
Sayashi: She was like, “Rinapu~! Stop it~!” They looked like they were having so much fun. I couldn’t help but be envious.

Sayashi says she also gets envious whenever she sees other MM members having fun talking to Michishige-san and that Michishige-san probably thinks they’re cute. However, Sayashi finds it hard to be forthcoming and initiate conversations with her. Deli-kun points out that Michishige-san will probably be happy if she does it, just like how Sayashi is happy when Rinapu comes up to talk to her.

Deli-kun: Do it! This is a mission to play “Guess who” with Michishige-san.
Sayashi: “Guess who”…That…I won’t do yet.
Deli-kun: You won’t?
Sayashi: *in a soft voice* I…I won’t.

“August is here!”, as Sayashi quite helpfully reminds us. She asks us listeners if we’re having a good summer so far, and strongly suggests that we ought to make the best of it by going to the beach, to the mountains, to summer festivals, and more!

Song: Morning Musume ’14 – Password is 0

Speaking on the topic of midsummer and the H!P concerts that come with it, Sayashi tells a recent story of when she was staying at a hotel due to them having a concert far away from Tokyo. Usually when the group is staying in a hotel they sleep either in single or double rooms, but this time it just so happened that Sayashi was given a room with three other members: Fukumura, Ikuta and Kudo.

Sayashi says she’s often called “untidy” whereas the other three staying with her were members who are generally thought of as quite neat and cleanly. Thus, while she was looking forward to hanging out with the three of them, she was also worried she might get called out by them on her filthy messiness. But unexpectedly for Sayashi, it was actually the other three who were just kind of lazing around and leaving things messy, to the point where she even started telling them to clean up after themselves.

Sayashi was actually really happy she got to be in that role for a change, and afterwards she even boasted about it to her manager. Her manager expressed doubt, saying Sayashi’s the type of person who’ll definitely screw something up because it was an unusual situation for her, suggesting that she probably forgot something in her room or something similar. Sayashi replied she was sure she had all her stuff, but when they checked out and arrived at the concert venue, she realized she didn’t have the juice she’d bought while they were staying at the hotel — she’d forgotten it in the refrigerator.

It reaffirmed Sayashi’s previously held opinion that she will never be perfect when it comes to this kind of thing. Deli-kun (the show’s pet/co-host) says that while he wouldn’t have expected anything less from Sayashi, he still would’ve preferred the story to have a happy ending. Sayashi claims that her fans would probably be really worried if Sayashi suddenly became all neat and cleanly. Deli-kun disagrees.
