Morning Musume。 ’17 no Morning Jogakuin ~Houkago Meeting~ #257 (2017.03.11)

By | May 27, 2017

Oda-chan: What day is it today?
Iikubo: What day? Um, a normal day, heading into spring?
Oda-chan: Stop kidding around.
Fuku-chan: A day when spring makes an eager start?
Iikubo: Graduation season?

The bantering goes on for a while until Oda-chan reminds them that it’s her 18th birthday.

Iikubo: You’re still 18!?
Fuku-chan: You’re already 18!?
Iikubo: Don’t you have too much presence for an 18 year old? (laughs)
Oda-chan: You know, I’ve been called a thirty-six year old ever since I was fourteen.

Oda joined Morning when she was thirteen, so it’s been five years – quite some time.

Opening Question
A word to the 13ki, and if you want to push it, to Oda-chan.

Fuku-chan: You’re all unique, aren’t you?

Fuku-chan suspects that the fans are familiar with Oda-chan’s uniqueness. For Kaga-chan, Fuku-chan finds it difficult to respond to her words. And while Yokoyama-chan looks quiet, she’s actually pretty aggressive. And then there’s how the 13ki interact: things’ll start with Kaedy teasing Yokoyama-chan, and Yokoyama-chan will come back at Kaedy with just as much force.

Iikubo: It’s sometimes hard to get involved with you. Probably because of that uniqueness that Fuku-chan pointed out.

Iikubo doesn’t know how to respond to them sometimes as well. Iikubo recounted an incident with Kaga-chan where Kaga-chan asked for shounen manga and anime recommendations. However, whenever Iikubo suggested something, Kaga-chan would say that she was familiar with the recommendation. Unfortunately, Iikubo couldn’t figure out whether Kaga was familiar with them in that she had already gone watched or read the suggestions, or was just familiar with their names.

Oda-chan: 13ki really are like a married couple, aren’t they? As for myself, I should become more efficient, right?

Watching the relationship between Reina-chan and Kaedy from the very start, Oda-chan can only see them as a married couple. A slim girl with short hair paired with a short girl with medium-long hair – Oda-chan likes that. And when she looks back on their relationship, when Kaedy teases Reina-chan, Yokoyama will responds with something or the other. The way Kaedy follows up, it’s like she’s apologising for her wife. Oda-chan does like the Renady pair.

Fuku-chan: Renady… That sounds nice, Renady…
Iikubo: Renady, huh?
Oda-chan: Doesn’t it sound like some sort of legendary Pokemon? (laughs)
Fuku-chan: Like Celebi. (laughs)

Sakura is back! For the intro, the two discuss Children’s Day, which happened to be the day this show aired. Kanon asks if Sakura has any particular memories attached to the day. Sakura recalls the helmet her family would bring out, which was something Kanon’s brother brought out too. While its simply called Children’s Day now, it used to be called Boy’s Day and the two associate most girl related celebrations with Hinamatsuri. They both reminisce about what they ate for the holidays, such as small cakes, mochi and a fancy lunch sets. Going back to Children’s Day, it falls during Golden Week, meaning Morning Musume will be pretty busy during that time. This year, they’ll be holding a concert at Nakano Sun Plaza, and the girls invite everyone to come. To finish their opening talk Kanon reminds everyone that Sakura is the first guest on her radio show so its going to be a pretty special show today.

Song: Morning Musume ‘15 – Yuugure wa Ameagari

I, Suzuki Kanon Will Open Up To My True Feelings Message Corner! (with Sakura)

Message 1: The writer thinks that Morning Musume’s latest song “Yuugure wa Ameagari” seems like its a message for Sayumi and wonders what Kanon and Sakura think of that.

The two agree that recently they’ve been reigning in their Sayumi feelings. Sakura states that most of the DVD magazines and the past Spring Tour DVD have been released, and that means Morning Musume releases involving Sayumi will soon end.. Going back to the song, the two bring up the lyric “I’m reminded of the fun nostalgic days, but they won’t come back”. They delve into the lyrical meaning of not being able to go back; to Sakura, its more like “I can’t return to the finale,”. Kanon brings up Tsunku’s Liner Notes, that explained “Its a sad song, but it’s also a forward-looking song,” also “Its sad that Sayumi left, but please leave the future to us,”, which she thought was quite moving, but still reminds her of her time with Sayumi.

This week, Kanon has her first guest on the show: Oda Sakura! After wooing for a few seconds in excitement, Kanon asks if Sakura knew how highly requested she was to come on the show. Sakura says she did know: many people had told her they wanted her on her blog. There really were a lot of requests, despite it making Kanon a little annoyed. Moving on, the two have many stories together, being curry friends, they even went for curry before the recording. Aside from that brief introduction to their friendship, Kanon is excited for Sakura fans to also tune into their radio show.

Suzuki, Oda and Kudo talk about their Hawaii tour that’s next week. For Oda, it’ll be the first time she’s ever been overseas in her life. She’s been told that Hawaii is basically the same as Japan as you can get by with just Japanese, but Kudo says that it still takes some time to get used to the different currency as well as everything, especially food portions, being bigger. Speaking of the different value of things there, Kudo tells a story about how last time when she was in Hawaii, she found a pair of black Converse sneakers she’d been wanting for sale at $19. She thought that was still a bit steep, but when she came back and looked it up, the cheapest pair she could find for sale in Japan was $40.

The three name the H!P members they’re most interested in as of late: Inaba Manaka (Oda), Takeuchi Akari (Suzuki) and Wada Ayaka (Kudo) — the last one earns Kudo few whistles from Oda.

Elaborating on their choices, Kudo says she got close to Wada-san thanks to them appearing in Lilium together. Oda notes that Kudo’s and Wada-san’s feelings for each other seem mutual and Suzuki figures Wada-san must have a thing for narcissists. Kudo starts making up an excuse to prove Wada-san’s innocence, and the other two say it’s cool how Kudo is trying to protect her so desperately. Kudo wants to change the topic.

Oda says she’s noticed Suzuki really likes Takeuchi lately which Suzuki admits. She says that when they’re hanging out together, she’s just “Akari-chan” as usual. But when Suzuki is by herself watching S/mileage’s videos and stuff — “Samui ne” or “Choto Mate Kudasai!” for example — she finds her so cute she doesn’t know what to do. Kudo asks if Suzuki saw their new PV yet, and Suzuki says (or rather, screams) that she did and that Take-chan was really cute in it. Oda explains that Suzuki first took notice of Take-chan’s appeal during the final day of Lilium: after the performances had all ended, she was just backstage watching their videos when she suddenly went “…Akari-chan is cute!!!” Suzuki says she’s lately often showing S/mileage’s videos to her dad and going “Isn’t Akari-chan just so cute in this?!” Kudo suggests that Suzuki has fallen in love with Take-chan. “Love, huh…?“, ponders Suzuki.

According to Oda, her pick, Inaba Manaka from the Kenshuusei, is first and foremost just really cute. She says she, too, may have fallen in love with Manaka-chan. Manaka-chan, though, says she likes Kudo, so Oda often tries to help her out by making her and Kudo closer. Once she called Manaka-chan and Kudo in the same room and made them link their hands, and afterwards Manaka-chan approached her and said “I was so nervous, Oda-chan! Thank you!” Oda then said “but I actually like you, you know…” and Manaka-chan happily replied “then it looks like this is becoming a love triangle!” Kudo says Oda’s pretty amazing for doing all that just to be close to Manaka-chan, but Oda corrects her and says she just does it because she wants the person she likes to be happy.

Suzuki, Kudo and Oda kick off the show by talking about August 9th which is Hug Day in Japan.

Kudo says that she’s often the one on the receiving end of hugs, whereas Oda and Suzuki are the ones who like doing the hugging. Suzuki says she specifically enjoys hugging Mizuki, but unfortunately doesn’t go into further detail as to why that may be. Oda says that hugging people is supposed to remove 60% of one’s stress, but then realizes that it must instead be a pretty stressful day for the people who don’t like being hugged. “It’d be like the person hugging them is just passing their 60% of stress right on to them,” Oda laughs. Kudo points out that it must suck if that person’s stress level was already at 100% to begin with — a 160% stress level can’t be pleasant.

Next, they talk about how August 10th is their senior Abe Natsumi’s birthday. Kudo remembers singing Abe-san’s “Tomorokoshi to Sora to Kaze” at Hawaii once, whereas Oda has sung “Iki wo Kasanemashou,” “Sweet Holic” and “Senkou Hanabi” at her solo events. While Suzuki hasn’t sung any of her songs yet, she was really happy recently when they were appearing on a music program together and Abe-san waved at her in the dressing room and went “Suzuki~!” while blowing her a kiss.

Speaking on her first impression of Abe-san, Oda recalls how during the 11th gen auditions the auditionees were doing training together at the office building, and Abe-san just suddenly stepped out of an elevator near where they were filming Oda. Oda was caught off guard, just thinking to herself “It’s Nacchi! I met Nacchi!

Moving on to the topic of summer homework assignments. Last year, Kudo did independent research regarding 100% orange juice. She bought lots of orange juice from different makers, compared their taste, detailed the differences in their ingredients, etc. Oda likes doing a diary/schedule type thing of her daily activities, but since joining Morning Musume, it’s now just filled with days like “woke up, put on make-up, performed concert, returned home.” Suzuki doesn’t want to be so detailed so she just writes “woke up, went to work, returned home.

Song: Morning Musume – One Two Three

…But before the song begins playing, Kudo and Oda suddenly start singing “Happy Birthday” and the staff brings in a cake to the studio — Suzuki just turned 16 some days prior to the broadcast of the show. Suzuki, after she gets over the surprise, is asked by Kudo about things she’d like to achieve or do on her 16th year. While Suzuki says it’s nothing terribly interesting, she says she’d like to become a better singer. Kudo and Oda both agree that it’s a great thing to strive for.
