 Winter Feels

The show today opens with Rinapuu asking Meimi what marks the start of winter for her, as it’s starting to get chilly during the morning and evening. Meimi begins to describe the cool winter breeze blowing into her room and sparkling in the morning in a very dream-like voice, which freaks Rinapuu out: “Please go back to normal,” she asks, before Meimi starts singing out of nowhere. “Please be quiet, the listeners–“ Rinapuu tries to stop her but it’s too late, Meimi is in her own world now.

It turns out that it’s the final day of Wicked in Japan and Meimi is doing her best Glinda impression as a result. Rinapuu doesn’t know who that is, but she does know that Elphaba is the name of one of the characters although she’s not sure which one (“The green one?”).

Rinapuu knows that it’s winter when she starts to get affected more by static electricity. She hates static electricity more than anything, possibly even more than bugs. Meimi remembers back when they shot the Mystery Night PV and it was freezing cold in those outfits so they all wore big coats… except Rinapuu. Rinapuu says it’s because taking the coat on and off would give her the static electricity prickles and she doesn’t want to staff members to keep getting shocked from putting it on and off of her either. Plus, her hair gets messed up from it and she doesn’t want to have to keep asking the hair dresser to fix it for her. Static electricity is her least favorite thing, but it’s how she knows winter is around the corner.  Continue reading

Itsudemo! Kannon Smile #1 (2014.12.02)

Kanon starts the show off saying since it’s the first episode airing, she’s pretty nervous and isn’t sure how to handle it, honestly. She says has been talking by herself recently like at concerts but considers herself to be really bad at it. She talks about how she thinks it’s difficult to memorize what she has to say and then repeat it on stage and how even answering questions and summarizing talks are difficult and she’s incredibly nervous at those times. However, because she thinks she is really bad at talking by herself, she says will work at it. She says she wants to continue forward and become good at talking by herself, especially for the radio show. She then asks to listen closely for her improvements.

After that introduction, Kanon mentions that the radio program before this was Sayumi’s “Konya mo Usachan Peace” and how Sayumi was the personality of the radio show for 8 years. Now the baton has been passed to Kanon, but she says that 8 years was really an amazingly long time and wonders if it is really alright that she is continuing the show. She says that she is from Aichi, and she wants people to hear about her love and thoughts towards her hometown. She also mentions how she wants to look like someone who can handle things properly, mentioning that the show/she will have a “I’ll do my best!” theme. She wants to show herself in a true light. She mentions that there’s time for her show to become like “Konya mo Usachan Peace” and wants to work as hard as Sayumi had during her show.

Momoko announces that November 29th is ‘Ii Fuku no Hi’ – ‘Good Clothes Day’. A day for highly recommended winter fashion items and popular techniques for making use of clothes (Airi: ‘That’s a clearly defined day!‘). Fashion leader Miyabi is asked for her recommendation – she doesn’t know much about popular techniques, but at any rate, she recommends knitwear, for girls wanting to look cute in winter. Something white with large stitched knits.

Airi, however, finds it cold if she goes out with large stitches. The wind blows through the gaps. Miyabi thinks that it’d be fine, but the other two disagree. They’d have to wear Heattech clothes on the inside, which would clash with the white knit. Then there’s some confusion about whether Miyabi’s talking about ‘knit’ or ‘net’.

At photo shoots, Momoko’s often told that longish sleeves are the way to go – long enough to cover the palms, the so-called ‘moe-sode‘. Airi also brings up mufflers, which the girls agree are both cute and warm.

Knit? Net?

While last week Chii said that autumn is the season of good appetite, she now claims that it is also the season of sports. Thus, she asks Kumai-san if she has been exercising as of late, and Kumai-san answers that she hasn’t been doing any whatsoever. Besides dancing the closest she’s gotten to exercise has been walking up escalators, and she’s now noticed a major decline in her physical strength due to her lack of trying. This, however, has prompted her to become interested in starting up yoga. She talks about her friend having started it and how it’s supposed to have all kinds of health benefits, but then admits she hasn’t actually tried it herself as of yet.

Meanwhile, even though Chii finally bought a pair of running shoes back in September and promised she’d begin her new hobby soon, she reveals that she still hasn’t gone running — only walking. What’s more is that Chii used those shoes on only a total of two walks, and since then they’ve been sitting in their box. Again. Kumai-san is in disbelief hearing this. Chii adds even further insult to injury and reveals that one of those walks she did take wasn’t really a walk for the sake of exercise: she just went shopping in Harajuku and Shibuya while wearing them.

♪ Buono! – Kira Kira ♪

Momoko announces that November 22nd is ‘Ii FuuFu no Hi‘ – ‘(Married) Couple’s Day’. Getting married is something everyone’s dreamt about, and Momoko asks the others if their parents have good relationships with one another. Airi thinks that her parents have a good relationship. Her ideal marriage, perhaps from her observations of her mother, is one where the wife walks 3 steps behind the husband.

Airi: That’s my ideal. But there are all types. Even ones where the woman is in control.
Momoko: That’d definitely be my preference. I’d keep my spouse on a short leash.
(Airi and Miyabi shriek and applaud)
Momoko: Wouldn’t that be better? I’d seize all the power. In the future. If I get married.
Miyabi: (laughs) Momo would be like that. That’d happen.
Momoko: One step, two steps behind? No way, no way. Or even the same level? I’d rather be on top.
Miyabi: The same level would be fine for me.

For Airi, her father is the provider for the family. While in the Tsugunaga family, the mother may not be the backbone of the family, but she despite that, she still commands the father.

In Airi’s opinion, being at the same level is fine. But she’d like to become a wife who would support her husband whenever anything happens. The other two agree that it’s important to be supportive at times like that – what they’ve been discussing is a different thing altogether. When outside, of course they’d be supportive of their spouse, but their earlier discussion concerned domestic matters.

Airi thinks that she’d dislike a situation where you’d have the children observing that the mother is in control. The mood in her family is that the father of the highest importance (Momoko: ‘It’s definitely my Mama in my home‘). Her mother would notice when her father wanted additional servings of rice and bring it to him. This doesn’t happen in Momoko and Miyabi’s homes – their fathers would have to ask for seconds. In fact, when Momoko’s father asks Momoko to bring him some water, Momo’s response is, ‘Eh? Don’t you have legs?‘ If he asks nicely and explains that he’s tired, then Momoko will understand and go get it. But if it’s just a ‘Momo, water~‘ she’d just respond with a insolent ‘Come agai~n?‘.

Sayu hopes the listeners will keep her company until the very end of these 60 minutes.

Sayu talks about “YOUR LOVE,” her final photobook as a member of Morning Musume that was released last month. This being her 11th photobook, she feels thankful to the fans for having been able to release so many of them throughout the years.

Sayu is usually quite picky when deciding on live costumes or doing photo shoots for normal pictures — she’ll want to have her say in everything from the shape of her one-piece dress or the length of her boots so she can look the best that she possibly can — but when it comes to photobooks, she always leaves everything up to the staff. This is because while she’s normally very selective about what she wears, she feels that photobooks should be something where fans can discover new sides of her entirely.

The same thing applied to “YOUR LOVE.” Sayu didn’t say one word about what she hoped to wear, leaving all of it up to the staff. Lately in photobooks like “Mille-feuille” and “Blue Rose,” Sayu has mostly been wearing more mature swimsuits with subdued colors, but since this was her last photobook as a member of Morning Musume, the staff prepared a pink swimsuit for her this time. Sayu really felt their love through that choice: it reminded her of her first photobook and how she was so happy she got to wear a pink swimsuit on that one, too. She still remembers doing that first photoshoot in high spirits and personally asking the cameraman to take a picture of her with a nearby cat, which actually made it into the photobook:

Looking back, Sayu remembers a period of nearly two years when she didn’t get to release a new photobook, which was a source of sadness and anxiety for her. She was worried that maybe her last one didn’t sell enough and if she’d ever be allowed to release another one again. She recalls being a bit chubby around then as well, so she went on a diet to better her chances of getting another one. She was really happy when she finally did get to release her next one, “Doukei,” and it reminded her of how great a feeling it is to release a new photobook.

She hopes lots of fans get to see her last photobook, too.
