HALLOWEEN
This week’s opening topic

As has been the case for the past couple of weeks, the topic of Halloween brings to Kame’s mind Disneyland and Gaki-san’s fandom of it. She wants to know if everyone visiting Disneyland this time of the year is wearing Halloween-themed costumes. The answer is yes: Gaki-san remembers visiting there once on October 31st, and on that day it was to the point where you would’ve stood out had you not been wearing a costume.

Kame thinks about what she would dress up as if she was to go. Kame’s first thought is Mickey Mouse, but Gaki-san would rather have Kame dress up as Genie. Kame seems very excited about the idea.

Kame: Okay! I’m going to dress up as Genie and go to Disneyland!
Gaki-san: How exactly do you plan on becoming Genie though? You realize he’s half-naked, right? (laughs)
Kame: I’ll just hide those parts with my magic lamp.
Gaki-san: That’s funny. (laughs) You should do that.
Kame: Yeah. So look for Genie at Disneyland on the 31st!

Gaki-san’s advice to the listeners is that they probably shouldn’t take Kame’s statement too seriously.

MOVIE
This week’s opening topic… or is it?

Before they can even begin to talk about today’s opening topic, the hosts (or one of them at least) are surprised when the lights in the studio suddenly go out.

Kame starts singing “Happy Birthday” as a surprise to Gaki-san who is turning 22 years old in two days. Kame laughs happily about how they managed to surprise her co-host so well. A cake is brought into the studio and Kame proudly declares that it was actually her who went out and bought it earlier that morning. Luckily, their manager is there to immediately explain that Kame is lying.

FISH
This week’s opening topic

Speaking about today’s opening topic, Gaki-san reminds listeners of Kame’s love of fish, and especially of salmon. Gaki-san says she is more of a mackerel fan herself and thinks that people who are able to eat their fish “tidily” are admirable — by which she means people who are able to take out the fish bones and not make a mess in the process. Kame says that her dad can do so while her mom can not, and thus the two often get into fish-related arguments. Kame thinks it’s because she grew up in this sort of an environment that she became the person she is today.

SPORTS
This week’s opening topic

The hosts have received a message regarding the opening topic of tonight’s show!

Fan mail #1: “I’ve heard that in her elementary school days Kame was such a fast runner she was elected as their “eternal sportswoman.” (Kame confirms this as being true.) Thus, the listener wishes to know if Kame has any advice as to how one can run really, really fast.

“It’s true,” Gaki-san says. “Despite her looks, Kame actually has very good reflexes.” Kame demands an explanation as to what her co-host means by “despite her looks,” and Gaki-san explains that it’s simply that Kame has the image of someone who dances very sluggishly and just generally moves around in a very “relaxed” manner. “And yet,” Gaki-san adds, “Kame’s dancing is so sharp. She’s very sporty.“

Answering the listener’s question, Kame says that it’s all about having a sense of competition: she thinks it’s very important to always run with someone who is faster than you so they’ll motivate you to run faster, too.

FOOD
This week’s opening topic

Autumn foods: Kame names salmon as one of her favorites, although adding that she enjoys eating it pretty much throughout the entire year anyway. Gaki-san too is very much aware of how much Kame loves salmon — Kame mentions she actually just had some for breakfast earlier today.

Meanwhile, Gaki-san’s favorite autumn food is shiitake, or just mushrooms in general. But more than any food out there, what Gaki-san is most excited about in regards to this time of the year is Halloween and the special Halloween events that one can experience at Disneyland. Kame tiredly asks Gaki-san to “graduate” from her Disneyland obsession already; Gaki-san says she absolutely will not.

MOON
This week’s opening topic

Gaki-san was out on a walk the other night and as she was doing so, she noticed how the the moon appeared completely orange as it shone on her. More importantly, though, Kame is curious about her co-host and why she would choose to go on walks to begin with:

Kame: Like, I have a question. When you go out on a walk, do you have a goal?
Gaki-san: Of course. I have a set route.
Kame: But… ultimately, you just go back home, right?
Gaki-san: Well, yeah. Where else would I go? (laughs)
Kame: But it’s like… what exactly is “taking a walk“?
Gaki-san: Taking a walk is… you get home from work, and once it gets dark and it’s nice and cool outside, you just go out.
Kame: And what do you do once you’re out there?
Gaki-san: Nothing. You just walk.
Kame: It’s fun to just walk?
Gaki-san: It is.
Kame: I could never do that!
Gaki-san: You just walk. And you think, “ah, the wind feels so nice.” Or you’ll notice, “oh, the moon’s so beautiful!”
Kame: Wow. I love your life.

GRANDMOTHER or GRANDFATHER
This week’s opening topic

Kame begins by noting that she feels that her English has gotten better simply through doing this radio show and having to pronounce the English words they use. Meanwhile, Gaki-san was listening to Ai-chan’s FIVE STARS the other day and she felt that her English pronunciation had gotten even more incredible than before. “She’s been saying all this crazy difficult English even at our fall concert tour rehearsals,” Kame reveals.

But as for today’s opening topic: September 20th is the annual Respect-for-the-Aged Day in Japan. Kame says she actually struggles with this holiday: while she’s still close enough in age to her parents for her to get them something on Mother’s/Father’s Day, that’s not the case with her grandparents.

Gaki-san: You say that, but let me ask you then: did you get anything for your mother on Mother’s Day?
Kame: Well, see, the timing was a bit off with Mother’s Day.
Gaki-san: What do you mean by “timing”? (laughs)
Kame: The timing was bad.
Gaki-san: What about Father’s Day then?
Kame: Father’s Day? … Father’s Day doesn’t really leave an impression on me.
Gaki-san: That’s awful! (laughs)

Ultimately, what Kame thinks she’s going to do for Respect-for-the-Aged Day is to get a bunch of Kamei Eri goods from their office and give them to her grandparents as presents.

Kame: If it comes down to it, I’ll even buy the goods myself.
Gaki-san: Well, grandparents do love stuff like that! You should do that and maybe put your pictures in an album and write “To Grandma” or something.
Kame: Right. I’ll get our manager to do that.
Gaki-san: That’s horrible. Do it yourself! (laughs)
Kame: Manager? Are you listening?

JOURNEY
This week’s opening topic

“Journey is apparently another word for travel,” Kame helpfully explains. But since Kame doesn’t have a blog unlike some of her fellow members, fans may be wondering what she has been doing as of late as far as traveling goes. “What exactly did you get up to for those five days of summer vacation we got?,” Gaki-san asks. During those five days, Kame went to have a massage (thrice), she bought new clothes, and she went to karaoke with her family. “That’s pretty much it,” Kame says. In other words, the word “journey” didn’t have much at all to do with her summer vacation: she simply slept and ate as much as she wanted.

Meanwhile, Gaki-san went to Hokkaido with her family for four days and three nights. They rented a car and drove to places like Asahikawa and Furano. Her family avoided the city for the most part and just enjoyed the mountains and such — they even did some mountain climbing. Gaki-san feels like she got to spend her entire summer vacation surrounded by nature. She names the Asahiyama Zoo especially as one of the highlights of her trip.
