Fan mail #1: “Eririiiiiiin!!! It is now springtime. Please do an impression of a nightingale.

Song: Morning Musume – Genki Pikappika!

Fan mail #2: Morning Musume held a fanclub tour in Hawaii last month, and the listener wishes to know all about it!

Hawaii sure was fun,” the hosts agree. Gaki-san explains: “the atmosphere in Hawaii… it’s like, the fans all go back to being young boys and girls.” Something Kame found memorable about the tour was how (physically) close the members were to the fans — at times during the quiz event, there wasn’t even a full meter between them! But, at the end of the day, the no. 1 most memorable thing for the hosts was the live show. “There’s something about that feeling of performing outdoors,” Gaki-san explains. “You get to watch the sunset as you perform!

Fan mail #1: The listener congratulates the hosts for this show now having been on the air for a full year! On the very first episode, Kame talked about how she had matured somewhat: on their previous radio show together, Kame would only receive a one-page script per episode whereas Gaki-san always got the full version. Beginning with the this show, however, Kame started receiving the full version as well. Now that a year has passed, the listener wishes to know if Kame continues to get the same script as Gaki-san.

Kame says that, “in a sense” she now receives a bit less: the version of the script that Gaki-san receives is in a bigger font so as to allow her to make notes and such. Meanwhile, Kame prefers a really small font so everything can fit on a single A4 sheet of paper. In any case, the hosts are happy about the show’s first birthday. Gaki-san remembers how, back when it was still starting, Kame would interrupt her reading of the show’s email address with her pointless mumbling. These days, however, Kame will often say actual words instead.

Which reminds Gaki-san: some time ago, they were in the car listening to the episode where Kame suddenly did her “disgusting moaning” — twice. This apparently made Gaki-san’s dad, who was in the car with her, quite worried about Kame. With that said: the two happily agree to keep doing their best towards the show’s second birthday and beyond!

Hello! Drive! #75 (2017.01.13)

It’s currently mid-winter in Japan, and it’s cold. As a countermeasure, Yanamin wears a muffler and gloves when she goes to school. One thing that both Momochi and Yanamin both enjoy during winter is the crunch of treading on frost columns.

As for Momochi, she finds it harder to get up in the mornings, thanks to the cold. Though she generally gets up around lunch time anyway. The cold makes Momochi and her bed inseparable.

Yanamin: That’s mutual love, isn’t it?

It’s flu season, so the girls as everyone to take care. On to the first song – Hitoto Yo’s ‘Morai Naki’, released in 2002, the year of Yanamin’s birth

Momochi-senpai opens the show with a happy 15th birthday to Yanamin! Yanamin has heard that the age of fifteen is when one starts hearing adulthood knock on the door. Going up another step on the ladder, she’d like to mature in how she thinks and in other aspects as well.

It’s actually Momochi’s first time to be paired with Yanamin on a radio show like this. Momochi hasn’t been on a recorded radio show with proper segments and a script for quite a while (as opposed to live radio shows), so she can’t stop shaking.

Momochi: So today, I’ll be entrusting Yanamin with everything. Good luck!

Yanamin: That’s… quite a lot of pressure.

Momochi: It’ll be fine! You’ve turned fifteen, after all.

Yanamin: I, Yanamin, fifteen years old, will do my best.

On to the first song! Performed by Mr. Children, one of Momo’s favourite bands, this song was a big hit in 1992, the year of Momochi’s birth.

Country Girls no Tadaima Radio Housouchuu!! #54 (2016.04.10)

By | December 18, 2016

The girls attempt to answer the question carried over from the ANGERME broadcast prior to theirs: Why does Ozeki have a cute character?

Ozeki: First things first, I’m not putting on a character!

She always has to repeat this – she isn’t acting out a character, she’s only speaking the truth. Unlike Momochi-senpai, who’s definitely hamming it up as part of a persona. Funakki smooths things over by pointing out that Ozeki’s cuteness is of a different type, more like a model.

Morito: Is that fine?

Ozeki: Whether or not it’s fine, I’m cute, so it can’t be helped.

April 10th is ‘Interior Design Contemplation Day’. Ozeki‘s parents bought her a cat-shaped clock, whose tail would sway as the seconds ticked away. She’d like to build up her collection of cat-related items and fill her room up with them. Chiitan has been thinking about interior design recently as she wants to get a sofa to go with her room. The girls quite enjoy looking at room set-ups, be it in print or when they’re out shopping.

April is a month traditionally linked with new starts, be it the beginning of the academic year or the entry of new hires. The girls tackle the age-old question of how to make friends in a new environment. What Ozeki did last year was to start interacting with others when seats were being assigned. She doesn’t feel like she put in much effort to make the first step – instead, people would come and talk to her.

For shy Chiitan, it’s a huge problem. She remembers when she first entered middle school, and the person seated behind her came from a different primary school. When she had to pass along handouts, she couldn’t even look that person in the eye. But they eventually got to talking due to the close proximity, and they ended up becoming good friends. So maybe seating arrangements do play a big role.

Funakki is often said to be shy, but she wasn’t like that during primary school. She’d be the one going around, asking everyone to be her friend. One day, she tried it on a transfer student. The transfer student gave it five seconds thought before replying ‘Impossible‘. And ever since then, Funakki stopped proactively making the first move in befriending people. The nerves got to her.

That isn’t exactly the right attitude for making friends…

Airi’s Potion #13 (2016.09.28)

By | November 19, 2016

logo_main[1]

The first letter of the day comes from a listener who’s in university. When it’s exam time, they always get encouraged by listening to songs by ℃-ute and Buono! Anyway, they’d like to know what Airi does in order keep on being cute, whether she keeps up any beauty regimens.

Airi’s actually particular about a lot of things, and she thinks about them all the time. Her phone wallpaper and lockscreen will feature someone whom she’d like to look like, to serve as a reminder.

Every night, she’ll massage her legs so that they don’t swell up. It’s important to do every day, and has become like a hobby for her, so she recommends the listener give themselves massages or do stretches.

And that topic serves as a great jumping point for the next song. Airi used to go to dance lessons before she entered the H!P Kids. They’d do stretches before the lessons, and this next song is what used to play as she stretched. Of course, she was small at the time, and this being an English song, she could only remember that it started something like ‘Sombari hippon rai’ and couldn’t follow along beyond that.

Momoko‘s a bit weirded out with the mood in the studio this evening, so Airi decides to apologise:

Momochi isn’t going to let such a half-hearted Yurushite-nyan get off so lightly, and she berates Airi for using it so recklessly. It’s something to be treasured!

Airi: Yurushite-nyan.
Momoko: Much better.
Miyabi: That was cute.
Momoko: That was borderline ok though. I hoped that you’d end it just a bit more cutely.

Hello! SATOYAMA&SATOUMI Club #115 (2016.06.11)

Juice=Juice’s Miyazaki Yuka is this episode’s navigator. Juice=Juice recently wrapped up their tour at Kanazawa, in Yuka’s hometown of Ishikawa prefecture. As Juice=Juice’s first hall concert in Kanazawa, Yuka was nervous at first. But as it also was their final concert for that tour, it was a really wonderful show, everyone was enthusiastic, and even the fans had wonderful smiles on their face.

All the members also got to eat at Hachi-ban ramen, a major ramen chain in Ishikawa. The noodles are thick, so it might not seem like ramen at first glance to outsiders. However, it received the approval of ramen-loving Kanazawa Tomoko-chan. Yuka hopes that they’ll all be able to go to Hachi-ban ramen again.

Whenever Juice=Juice hold performances in Kanazawa, Yuka’s family will never fail to buy them gifts. At first Yuka told her family that it wasn’t necessary, but she then realised that her family enjoyed giving gifts – and Ishikawa has plenty of things that make good gifts.

June marks the beginning of the rainy season in Kanto. Yuka elaborates on types of rainfall – ‘Otokozuyu‘, where it rains heavy but ends quickly, and ‘Onnazuyu‘, where the rain is light but prolonged. When Yuka thinks about the rainy season, she’s normally got onnazuyu in mind, rain that goes on the whole day. Heavy but short bursts of rain bring to mind the squalls that happen in Okinawa.

The rainy season also means that it’ll often be cloudy, which may lead to a heavy mood. But listening to the sound of the rainfall relaxes Yuka. In fact, when you look up ‘relaxing sounds’, a bevy of rainfall recordings turn up. She recommends looking them up if you’re interested.

And speaking of the rain, the person who pops to mind is none other than Yajima-san. Yajima-san had recently talked about no longer being an ame-onna – a woman whose presence brings along the rain – but Yuka doesn’t feel that’s the case. There’s such a strong association between Yajima-san and the rain that the official Hello! Shop even released a Yajima umbrella. Yuka finds it very much like Yajima-san to be willing to take the Mickey out of herself, humbling herself to illustrate and promote the umbrella.
