Pâtisserie Airi #2 (2015.03.14)

Continuing on from last week, we’re again presented with the special programme ‘Pizza-La presents Pâtisserie Airi’, with Airi reminding us that ‘pâtisserie’ is French for a sweets or cake shop. Again, Airi would like to continue giving a swee~t talk. She had been worried about something last week, as it was her first time doing a radio programme by herself – whether or not the listeners could catch her words. And so, she’ll try her best to make sure the message gets to your ears.

Airi wonders if she’ll be all right, unsure whether she’ll be able to come to a conclusion by herself. Previously, Airi-sensei used to drop by when it used to be the three of them. Airi can’t call on her by herself though, it’d get awkward.

This time, we have a letter from a guy who’s currently in the process of getting his driving licence. His motive – with a car, he can go on dates regardless of the weather, and he doesn’t have to care about missing the last train (Airi: ‘Indeed!’). He’s currently working part time to pay for the fees. However, his girlfriend has gotten a foreign-make sports bicycle, and has been going cycling with people he doesn’t know. He worries that perhaps, even if he got a licence, his girlfriend wouldn’t be that enthusiastic. And so, he asks for advice.

Airi berates this listener for being so timid. If it were a foreign-make sports car, then there might be cause for concern… but it’s a bicycle! A vehicle you operate with your own feet! Even if it were a motorcycle or a moped, Airi would sympathise with his worries. But a bicycle, well, you can argue that they’re difficult to use in certain weather conditions, like rain, wind, or snow. She thinks that a car would definitely be appreciated.

Pâtisserie Airi #1 (2015.03.07)

By | April 12, 2015

osuzuwithcake[1]

Airi starts off by explaining that this week and the next, she’ll be hosting the special programme ‘Pizza-La presents Pâtisserie Airi’. In French, a ‘pâtisserie’ is a shop that deals in sweets and cakes. So she’d like to deliver a sweet talk to everyone, as sweet as cake, and she’ll do her best in her own way. It’s the first time she’s doing a radio programme by herself, without anyone else with her in the recording booth. She’s half lonely, and half uneasy over whether or not she’ll speak smoothly. Hopefully her words will get to everyone, as there are no subtitles when it comes to radio programmes.

Airi reads out a letter from a female teacher, who teaches mathematics to 3rd year primary school students at a cram school. She found out that she’s gotten a nickname from the students: Female pro teacher. The reason behind this – she resembles a female pro wrestler. ‘Should I continue just teaching mathematics to the students with this nickname?’

Airi: Yo, female pro teacher.

Airi herself doesn’t have a nickname, despite Suzuki being a common name in Japan (second most common, after Satou). It turns out that Airi went over well enough that it stuck. Tsunku♂-san once gave her the nickname ‘Osuzu’, but the Osuzu call never caught on with the fans at concerts.

Airi thinks that having a nickname isn’t a bad thing – It’ll make her memorable to her students. She suggests the listener build up on that nickname in the classroom, and make good memories for her students. Having a nickname should be something she should be happy about.

Airi: You know, like you could go ‘dosukoi, dosukoi’… Wait, that’s sumo.

Itsudemo! Kannon Smile #17 (2015.03.24)

March is almost over, huh. That means its about time for graduation season and the new school year to start. Also, Kanon’s sister is in 6th grade now. Kanon’s sister has always been more serious about her studies than her and a proud moment of late she became the student council president! Apparently back in elementary school, Kanon tried for this position too, but didn’t make it. Because Kanon loves her sister, she took her to Tokyo Disney Land as a congratulations.

Moving on, Kanon shares that she is entering her second year of high school and feels like everything in her life moving quickly. She doesn’t know how long she will be in Morning Musume after she graduates, but she is going to treat every day with importance.

Song: Morning Musume ‘15 – Yuugure wa Ameagari

I, Suzuki Kanon Will Open Up To My True Feelings Message Corner!

Message 1: After the Osaka Hello! Concert everyone went out to get yakiniku. The writer asks for Kanon tell a story that wasn’t shared about that day.

It was a super fun meal in Osaka, Kanon recalls. Because Morning Musume ‘15 is so large, the group had split up tables. Kanon sat with Iikubo Haruna, Ogata Haruna, Kudo Haruka, and Nonaka Miki. The 12th gen duo get along very well, Kanon thinks. It seemed like Miki hadn’t really been to a proper yakiniku place, so Ogata was explained the process to Miki throughout the dinner. The five of them had a rambunctious, fun time teaching each other how to properly cook yakiniku, eating casually without the usually seniority hierarchy getting in the way.

Aside from that story, Katsuta Rina and Kanon are pretty goods friends so, at some point during the dinner Kanon went over to chat with Rina. When Kanon came over Rina responded positively with a “Oh I’m happy you came over!”, however, Natsuyaki Miyabi happened to be at the table next the two. Miyabi started talking to Rina and the two ended up just talking to each other the whole time, making Kanon a little sad. She was hoping to talk to Rina for a little well but oh well, there’s always next time.

We are Juice=Juice #64 (2014.12.30)

“December 30”

All 5 juice boxes are in the recording booth today, but Karin give us the opening line. This is partially to commemorate their last show of the year, and partly because it’s Uemu’s birthday! Yay! But there is no time for that, straight to fan letters.

B5aYN5PCAAE4pO8

First, one from Nanapanda, who wants to know if she has any particular birthday memories, and another from Rapolitan, who praises Uemu and Karin for their birthday event and asks a question many of us probably have asked at some point: who decides what you sing for these events and how is that decision made?

They ignore the first question and go right into the decision-making process. Uemu says that there is a deadline that they are given by which point that have to have a list of songs they would like to sing and present it to the manager for confirmation. In Uemu’s case she had not made such a list by the time that date came around, so it was mostly left up to the manager to throw suggestions out there. Since they had a joint birthday event, they brought their lists together into a meeting and played all of the songs to see which ones had the best flow as a setlist and which ones would work as duets or solos. According to both of them, this was quite a simple meeting and they decided on the songs very quickly. Supposedly this was a joint decision-making process, but Yuka gets the impression that this was not the case.

Hi, hello. My name is Lurkette (sort of) and I promise I’m not intentionally abandoning anyone. I’m just really busy. That said, I do enjoy translating and especially translating anything related to S/mileage/Ange (no I will not say their full name unless I have to, thank you), so I am going to try my best to keep up with this better. I am also a crazy completionist and I like having everything translated, but if you, the readers, would prefer I give up trying to fill in the gap between now and when I last translated, I will focus on the more recent shows instead. That goes for We Are Juice=Juice, as well. Let me know, and I’m sorry for the delay!

It’s getting hot in here

…so go buy more clothes. As the weather warms up a little, Kananan asks Rinapuu what’s heating up for her, and the answer is sales. This is the time of year in Japan when everything goes on sale so that stores have room to add the new year’s collections, and Rinapuu is taking full advantage by buying lots of shoes and clothes, as now all the sales have gone from 30-50% off, as they started with at the beginning of the year, to 70% off. Kananan hopes that she’ll take her with next time she goes. As for Kananan, the hot new thing is lazing around at home. She used to spend all of her off days going out with friends, but lately she has taken more time to relax by herself.

Kananan: I’ll just hang out on the floor, sometimes I find some cardboard and make a fort out of it and stay in that.
Rinapuu: …are you a cat?

In her defense, she has also taken up running and runs around her neighborhood for an hour every day, so by the time she gets back she falls asleep on the floor. End of story.

Pâtisserie Momochi #2 (2015.03.28)

By | March 31, 2015

Continuing on from last week, Momoko will again be presenting the special programme ‘Pâtisserie Momochi’. Sadly, it’ll be ending with this week’s episode. Time really did fly past, and she wonders if it turned out all right.

It’s almost April, which marks the start of the new school year, as well as the time of the year when graduates enter employment. As such, April is usually considered a time of beginnings and a time when people start on a new life.

To those who are exhausted with work or with their private lives, as the pâtissière of Pâtisserie Momochi, Momoko would like to lift your spirits with her sweet and yummy talk.

  ♪ Buono! – Kiss! Kiss! Kiss! ♪

Solving your bitter worries in a refreshing way
Pâtissière Momochi’s sweet recipe

This week we hear from a 31-year old office worker, who loves idols and music. He’s long harboured ambitions to be a lyricist. This has led him to fill a notebook with original compositions, aiming to capture the feelings of a teenage girl through his lyrics. However, he misplaced that notebook at the office. Now, he can’t help but get worried about the off-chance that his colleagues would see the contents of the notebook. ‘Please soothe this unpleasant feeling somehow.

Momoko wonders if the listener wrote his name on the cover. Well, an office worker probably wouldn’t. If that’s the case, he could just go around asking people at the office, ‘My daughter lost her school music notes, it seems that it got mixed with my office documents, might you have seen it?‘, expecting his colleagues to react on the lines of ‘Huh, it’s your daughter’s!?‘ Although there would still be the risk of them noticing that the contents weren’t written in a girl’s handwriting.

Momoko herself doesn’t think that it’s anything to be embarrassed about. If he’s saying that fully getting into the feelings of a teenage girl is embarrassing, then that would be the same as saying that Tsunku♂-san is embarrassing.

Momoko: That would be rude to Tsunku♂-san! Tsunku♂-san’s amazing, just so you know.

Tsunku♂-san really expresses a girl’s feelings through the lyrics he writes, although Momoko herself doesn’t get it sometimes. Having put himself into the role of a girl, Tsunku♂-san brings his music out to the world, where they become big hits. Momoko thinks of that as something wonderful, so she hopes that the listener has confidence in himself. And if his dreams come true someday and he becomes a renowned lyricist, Momoko would love to perform one of his compositions as well.

Itsudemo! Kannon Smile #16 (2015.03.17)

First off, March has two birthday’s to celebrate for Morning Musume. Haga Akane and Oda Sakura! Akane turned 13 on the 7th. Kanon was surprised when she realized Akane wasn’t 13 when she initially joined. When the 9th Generation entered Morning Musume, Kanon had already turned 13, so at first Kanon thought “Oh, I can relate to Akane,” but after realizing she was actually 12, she thought “Wow, she’s so young,”. During lessons Akane seems to be connected to Kanon in some way, although this may be that Akane looks a bit like Kanon. At some point, Erina looked at Akane and said “Waa! I thought you were Kanon,” (or, maybe its just Erina). Akane seems to be the kind of kid that says deep things spontaneously. Kanon wonders where this will advance as Akane turns 13.

Next, Oda Sakura turned 16 on the 12th! Sakura is the number one member Kanon goes out to eat with. If there is a night lesson they will often eat dinner together before. Sakura had experience being in Kenshuusei before joining Morning Musume. Although Kanon doesn’t share this experience, she can understand the anxiety Sakura went through when she first joined so they can relate. Kanon states Sakura is an important member because of her great energy. Her great ability to dance and sing make her seem like a genius. She thinks its probably because Sakura works hard to do everything well so the fans can have a good performance to watch. Even though Kanon is her senpai, she definitely looks up to Sakura in that way.

Pâtisserie Momochi #1 (2015.03.21)

By | March 29, 2015

For this week and next week, we have the special programme ‘Pâtisserie Momochi’! While this time slot used to host a three-person radio show, this time it’s just Momochi by herself. As to what she thought when she first heard about the programme:

Momoko: At first, I had no idea what ‘Pâtisserie’ meant, I couldn’t hide my confusion.

But she looked it up for those of us who similarly aren’t familiar with French, and she explains that ‘Pâtisserie‘ is French for a sweets or cake shop, a male pastry chef would be a ‘pâtissier‘, while the female equivalent would be a ‘pâtissière‘. Momochi thinks that ‘pâtissière‘ has a nice ring to it.

Momochi also notes that Airi had previously hosted her own solo radio show ‘Pâtisserie Airi’ over the past two weeks, which had gone over well with the listeners and Baron-san. The bar has been raised for Momochi, and expectations are high on her.
